Jean Sames Memorial Tree (#1000 - 1010)

When the buildings at the top of campus had to be demolished to make way for the new school, the Jean Sames Memorial Tree was sadly cut down. Today, A new tree was planted in Jean's memory. Her husband Tony, a former English lecturer at Westhill, who is very knowledgeable about trees and loves planting them, came and helped to plant it. A Rowan was chosen for its Celtic associations, because Jean was from Wales.

Jean was a Community Play and Youth Lecturer at Westhill College, formerly on the Selly Oak campus. In her later years she was Dean of Students. She worked here from 1982-2001.

A new plaque will follow shortly.
